Understanding Ant Removal Methods

What You Can Do to Control the Spider Population in Your Home

Spiders are creepy, crawly creatures that you just don't want in your home. If you have one or two spiders here and there, that isn't a problem, but if you have multiple sightings of spiders in your home you could have an infestation. Those eight-legged bugs can come in all shapes and sizes, some are harmless, while others may be poisonous. Control the spider population in your home by following the tips below.

Clean Up Clutter

Clean up clutter around your home where spiders may be making their nests or hiding. If you have a lot of clutter around the floor of your home, or just a lot of clutter around your home in general, start the cleanup process. Remove as much from your floors as possible and then clean up a lot of the clutter on shelves, counters and elsewhere around your home.

Deep Clean

Give your home a thorough deep cleaning once you have the clutter removed. Vacuum floors, dust shelves and clean up counters. Remove nests of spiders that you may find and remove webs that you find when cleaning. If you find live spiders, kill any that you see. When cleaning, use a mixture of vinegar, water, and peppermint essential oil. This is a natural cleaning agent, and the peppermint can help to keep spiders at bay.

Spray Peppermint Oil

Create another mixture of peppermint essential oil and water, and spray this mixture around the outside of your home, and around the baseboards of your home as well. If you have a basement or crawl space, you can spray this mixture around the edges of these areas as well. The peppermint scent will help keep the spiders away.

Set Spider Traps

You can purchase spider traps from your local hardware store to trap the spiders and kill them. Replace these traps every 30 days. Be sure to keep small children and pets away from these traps as they usually contain poison that can be harmful if ingested. Set these traps in cool dark areas of your home such as basements, corners of rooms or in cupboards and beneath sinks where spiders are most likely to nest.

If you have a spider infestation in your home, you can hire services like Godfather's Exterminating, Inc. Most household spiders may be harmless, but when you're seeing a lot of them in your home, harmless or not, you don't want them there. Use the tips above to help you and hire a professional if you aren't able to get rid of them on your own.
